Is it summer already? Or is it just the heated exchange between these two bestest friends? Umenyiora already in the news of late because of his claim that Giants general manager broke his promise to renogotiate his contract, has now responded to Philadelphia Eagles' running back Lesean McCoy's tweet claiming that Umenyiora is soft. Umenyiora's response, well he's softer.

"I mean, he’s a girl, man. Who does stuff like that?" Umenyiora said by phone this afternoon to Star Ledger reporter Mike Garafolo. "If he has more of these things to say, he can say ‘em to my face. Don’t be no Twitter gangster man."

Umenyiora then admitted that he and McCoy have had numerous exchanges, to say the least, on and off the field. "Yeah, me and him, we had words on the field – both times we played. I hate him, he hates me, period," Umenyiora said.

"He chose to take that off the field and make it public when it’s something that’s between me and him. It’s something we can address on the football field. He let the whole world know about it, so I’m going to respond."

Umenyiora went on to say that he and McCoy's war of words have gotten pretty rough this past season, and his hatred towards him and the Eagles have only increased.

"This year was the worst in my eight-year career as far as animosity toward that team. There’s a real hatred toward Phlly and there’s a real hatred for them toward us. So it was rough out there. But I feel things like that stay on the football field. Off the field, we respect each other because at the end of the day we’re all brothers. But he decided to take it so far that there’s no going back from it now."

Although due to his contract situation, there is speculation that Umenyiora may not return to the Giants and resume his rivalry with the Eagles. If he doesn't return there's a good chance he won't even play the Eagles or see McCoy for some time.

"Right, I won’t. But I’ll see him somewhere for sure," he said of McCoy. "It’s going to continue, man. There’s going to be no going back from this one because I feel he crossed the line."

Giants wide receiver Steve Smith, defending his teamate, took a shot at McCoy writing on his twitter account, "The nerve of certain youngins running their mouth. Please don't forget." Linking a picture of him, Tom Coughlin and Eli Manning during the Super Bowl XLII celebration over the Patriots, and in the middle an empty Eagles' trophy case.
